CSU 52 has a variety of committees to become involved with, from putting on social events to helping fellow CSU 52 members. Our committees have planning positions that meet formally, or you can sign up to support a committee on a casual basis that does not require a dedicated commitment.

Participating on a committee is a great way to become involved with and learn more about the Union, meet new people and network, and support interests and causes that you care about.

Standing Committees

Bylaws
  • Ensure that the CSU 52 Constitution & Bylaws (the “C&B”) and the Union 52 Benevolent Society Bylaws & Objectives are up to date and registered with the appropriate authorities.
  • Research issues of importance and explore CSU 52 bylaws and policies about specific subjects, with the goal of identifying gaps and implications, and draft proposed revisions for consideration at the request of the Policy & Procedures sub-committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Identify any conflict and/or implications to the C&B arising from notices of motions.
  • Identify gaps between the C&B and the Policy & Procedures Manual.
  • Advise the Union Membership at the April General Meeting of any conflicts and/or implications arising from the notice of motions, prior to the motions being voted on.
  • The Committee's role is advisory in nature.

Anti-Racism & Anti-Discrimination
  • Define the vision and mission for the Committee.
  • Advise the Board of Directors on theories of change, defined objectives, and desired outcomes for CSU 52.

City of Edmonton One Wage Scale Advocacy
  • Develop strategies for action and mobilize CSU 52 members employed by the City of Edmonton in support of a single wage scale for each classification.
  • Advocate for the elimination of the City of Edmonton's practice of paying different hourly rates to employees in the same classification performing the same work.
  • Support and complement collective bargaining and other union initiatives aimed at achieving one wage scale for City of Edmonton CSU 52 members.
  • This is a temporary committee established under Bylaw 6.8 and will be dissolved when any of the following occurs:
    1. City of Edmonton members ratify a collective agreement that provides for a single wage scale for each classification, thereby eliminating multiple wage scales for the same work;
    2. A motion is passed at a Regular or Special Membership Meeting to dissolve the Committee; or
    3. The Committee votes by a two-thirds (2/3) majority of its voting members to dissolve itself, subject to confirmation by the Board of Directors.

  • CSU 52 supports the Edmonton & District Labour Council (EDLC) goals to:
    • Secure legislation which will safeguard and promote the principles of free collective bargaining, the rights of workers, and the security and welfare of all people.
    • Extend the benefits of collective bargaining to all workers and promote the interests of our affiliates.
    • Protect and strengthen our democratic institutions. To secure full recognition and enjoyment of the rights and liberties to which we are justly entitled, and to preserve and perpetuate the cherished traditions of our democracy.
    • Safeguard the democratic character of the labour movement and respect the autonomy of each affiliated union.
