For this June Regular Membership Meeting (RMM), in addition to the usual online Zoom option, there will be an in-person attendance option at the Central Lions Seniors Recreation Centre.
Following the adjournment of the hybrid RMM, in-person attendees will welcome Valleyview Municipal Library members to CSU 52 and watch a screening of CBC's The Fifth Estate: The Shadow War on Libraries, presented by the Labour Advocacy Committee.
What: Books stolen, funding cut. At its heart, a group of queer teens and a movement that would see 2SLGBTQ+ identity removed from public view. This investigation examines the coordinated ideological pressure campaigns targeting libraries and the people who run them.
When: Wednesday, June 3, 2026
Where: Central Lions Seniors Recreation Centre, 11113 113 Street NW
Time: Arrive by 5:30 PM for the Regular Membership Meeting; screening to follow directly after meeting
- Food will be served! Please register and CHOOSE THE IN-PERSON OPTION so we have numbers for catering (register ASAP before 100 spots fill up).
Why this matters: Across Alberta, libraries are under direct attack, not only as institutions, but as trusted public spaces.
Bill 28 puts Alberta libraries at risk of government censorship. It allows for the appointment of inspectors to investigate libraries and grants the Ministry of Municipal Affairs sweeping and unprecedented authority to inspect your library borrowing record, override local library board decisions and limit access to materials.
This bill creates a clear pathway for political interference and surveillance.
As new members of Civic Service Union 52, Valleyview Library workers are joining a collective commitment to solidarity and the defence of accessible public institutions.
Join us to get informed, get talking, and get connected with your union. We hope to see you there. Please bring your mobile device with Zoom installed to vote on any motions during the Regular Membership Meeting.
Regular Membership Meetings are open to all card-carrying CSU 52 members. They provide an opportunity for CSU 52 to update members on the business of the Union and its bargaining units, as well as any special initiatives that are underway. It is also an opportunity for Active Members to bring questions and concerns to the floor. Meetings are generally 90 minutes in duration, dependent upon content and member involvement.
Notable Agenda items include, but not limited to:
- Nominations (and election if required) of two Union Scrutineers and One Assistant Returning Officer to oversee the October Election of the Board of Directors (Bylaw 5.2.1)
- Committee Mid-Year Reports
These meetings are required by the CSU 52 Bylaws and are held five times a year to conduct the business for Civic Service Union 52.
Live Closed Captioning will be available for this meeting.
