Read your Collective Agreement
  • Areas you might get questions on from members:
    • Probation
    • Selection Process and Seniority
    • Discipline/Investigation process
    • Grievance procedure
    • Medical leaves
    • Sick time
    • Benefits

Read the Shop Steward Manual

Introduce yourself to all members in your workplace. Get everyone’s personal contact information. Examples of topics you could discuss (it doesn’t have to be all in one conversation!):
  • Give your contact information before asking for theirs
  • How they can be involved (meetings, committees)
  • Ask them if they have activated their CSU 52 web account and signed up for e-News
  • Ask if they have their Membership Card or explain how to get it
  • Ask them about their understanding of the Collective Agreement
  • Talk about bargaining and ongoing campaigns (e.g. Red Shirt Campaign, Edmonton for Everyone public relations campaign)

Update your workplace’s member chart by indicating who has left or joined your workplace
