Valleyview Library Workers Join CSU 52 — Strengthening Public Services Across Alberta

Posted on 8/26/2025

Dear Members,

Civic Service Union 52 is proud to welcome the newest members of our union: staff from the Valleyview Municipal Library.

These workers provide essential library services in their community and now join a growing movement of public sector employees across Alberta who are standing together for fairness, respect, and a stronger voice at work. Their decision to unionize is a meaningful step — not only for their workplace, but for the broader vision of a resilient, inclusive, and well-supported public sector across the province.

Libraries have long been trusted spaces where communities connect, learn, and access opportunity. In recent years, library workers have faced mounting challenges — including budget pressures, restructuring, and growing scrutiny over inclusive programming. CSU 52 is proud to stand alongside these workers, ensuring they have the protections, solidarity, and legal resources needed to continue delivering vital public services.

This expansion is part of CSU 52’s strategic focus to grow our union by welcoming new workplaces that align with our mission to serve and strengthen communities.

We’re pleased to support Valleyview library workers as they prepare to negotiate their first collective agreement — and we encourage any public sector workers across Alberta who want to explore unionization to reach out to CSU 52.

Let’s build a stronger public sector together. No workplace is too small to make a big difference.

In solidarity,

Bryce Jowett
President
