In a resounding display of solidarity and determination, here are the results for the strike mandate votes:
- Edmonton Public Library members of CSU 52 have overwhelmingly voted in favor of a strike mandate. With an impressive 93% voter turnout, an astonishing 94% of members have cast their votes in support of a strike mandate.
- City of Edmonton members of CSU 52 have voted in favour of a strike mandate. 83% of eligible voters cast their ballot over the weekend with 91% of members voting in support of a strike mandate.
Message from Lanny Chudyk, President of Civic Service Union 52:
“It is clear that City Council and Administration are out of touch with their employee base. We have sent a very clear message: we will not settle for an unfair agreement and watch as dollars are continuously mispent without considering those who actually perform the front-line, core services on behalf of Edmontonians.
While we have overwhelmingly voted in favour of a strike mandate, we do not want to have to withdraw our services. Our goal is still to reach a fair and equitable settlement at the negotiation table that supports members and tax payers.
Thank you for standing together in unwavering determination to secure a fair and equitable agreement. The strong strike mandate speaks volumes about the collective resolve of our membership in the negotiation process.”
What happens next?
- Our hope is that the employer will come back to the bargaining table and continue to negotiate toward a fair and equitable agreement to avoid a work stoppage.
- More details will be shared in the coming days.
