It is highly disappointing that City Administration did not properly budget for salary increases for Edmonton Police Service members, while over the past five years, Council has taken a 3.9% raise themselves.
As CSU 52 members are currently negotiating contracts dating back to 2020, this news concerns us. We certainly expect that Administration has budgeted for basic cost-of-living raises for their front line employees who deliver the core services Edmontonians rely on and who are constantly expected to do more with less. While the city population increases, the demand and needs for the core services that CSU52 members provide will only continue to grow as well. Treating them fairly should be a City Council priority and should not come at an extra cost to taxpayers.
