City of Edmonton Bargaining Update

Posted on 1/16/2024

On January 15, 2024, the Union was informed that the City of Edmonton (CoE) has asked the Mediator to “write out”. This means that mediation ends and the two-week cooling down period starts. It also signals that the CoE feels the parties are too far apart and that further mediation will not bring the parties to an agreement. After the two-week cooling down period has expired, the CoE or the Union can, with a 72-hour notice, respectively declare a lockout or strike.

The Union expects the CoE has contemplated their next move, however, it has not been shared with the Union.

Your Union Bargaining Team is scheduling a team meeting for January 18, 2024, to decide upon a way forward. After that meeting, your team will schedule information sessions to discuss go-forward plans with the membership.

Please stay tuned to the website for meeting notices.

Your patience and support throughout this long and arduous round of bargaining is appreciated.
