CSU 52 Endorsements
2025 Edmonton Municipal Election
Posted on 9/12/2025
Dear Members,
I am pleased to announce that the CSU 52 Board has officially finalized our endorsements for the 2025 Edmonton Municipal Election, scheduled for October 20, 2025.
What are we focusing on?
Our endorsements reflect the values we know matter most to our members and the communities we serve:
Why are we endorsing some incumbents?
Some members may wonder why CSU 52 is endorsing incumbent councillors, given the difficult round of bargaining in 2024. The reality is that since then, many councillors have made efforts to rebuild trust and show up differently:
- Acknowledging where they could have done more to support front-line workers.
- Asking tougher questions of Administration, especially as it relates to labour issues.
- Recognizing the influence of the City Manager in shaping workplace culture.
- Listening to our members, who have reported that the City workplace environment has improved over the past year, since the appointment of City Manager Eddie Robar.
- Supporting a truly interest-based bargaining process in 2025 that wrapped up quickly, although there will always be more work to do, with strong membership approval and without the need for job action.
These actions matter, and they show a commitment to moving forward in a better way.
Endorsed Candidates
For all of these reasons, the CSU 52 Board of Directors is proud to endorse the following candidates:
MAYOR
COUNCILLORS
No endorsement
Ward tastawiyiniwak
What does this mean for me?
You may receive emails about campaign events or candidate volunteer opportunities. These are targeted to members who live in relevant wards. You can opt out of these political emails at any time while still receiving important bargaining and internal union updates.
Why is CSU 52 making endorsements?
As a union, we have a responsibility to support candidates who respect workers and public services. A labour-friendly council makes for smoother bargaining, stronger protections, and fewer disputes, which means your dues can be focused where they’re needed most.
And unlike most elections, many of our members are in the unique position of actually being able to vote for their bosses. That makes it all the more important that members’ voices are clear, organized, and aligned when it comes to choosing City Council.
Like all endorsements, whether from unions, community or business groups, or media outlets, we are simply providing one perspective on this election. It’s up to you how much weight you give these endorsements when casting your vote.
Why is there no endorsement in Ward tastawiyiniwak?
At the time of writing, no candidate in Ward tastawiyiniwak has declared their intent to run who we believe reflects the priorities of CSU 52, or of our labour affiliations. If that changes during the campaign period, the Board will review and may update our endorsements accordingly.
Are we coordinating with other unions?
Yes. As much as possible, we’ve aligned our endorsements with the Coalition of Edmonton Civic Unions and Edmonton & District Labour Council to strengthen labour’s collective voice and build broader support for public-service advocates.
These endorsements are about standing up for the values that matter to CSU 52 members: public services that work, workplaces that are fair, and a city that respects the people who keep it running.
Thank you for everything you do, and for continuing to strengthen our collective voice.
In solidarity,
Bryce Jowett
President, CSU 52
On behalf of the Board of Directors
