May 1st is international Workers’ Day. Each year events are organized across the country to celebrate gains in quality of life which unions have secured for union members and society as a whole. This year’s Edmonton event will relate the story of the Garment Workers of America Local 120 (Edmonton Great Western Garment Company Factory); GWG workers were the first in their industry to win an 8-hour work day.
The event starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Alberta Legislature, after which we will march onward to Churchill Square. A social and refreshments follow at the Stanley A. Milner Library, and will finish with a Labour Cabaret and Social at Brittany’s Lounge.
CSU 52 is a firm advocate of workers’ rights and a proud sponsor of this event.
Please join us in celebrating a piece of Labour history and maintaining solidarity.
