Welcome to the Elections 2018 page.
The Union’s Constitution & Bylaws regulates the election procedure for Board of Directors positions. Bylaws Article 5 details duties of Election Officers, how Election Officers are elected, how nominations are made and accepted, how Members qualify to be nominated, and when election dates take place.

In preparing our Nomination Form and Poster for the upcoming elections, it came to the Union’s attention that an error was made when we passed Resolution “7.2.14 Bylaws Article 5.02, Nominations, (e)” at our April 3, 2018 General Membership Meeting. At the meeting, we voted and approved the following addition to Article 5.02(e):
(ii) Where an acclamation is declared for a position and the candidate does not have the qualifications according to Bylaws Article 5.02(c), the candidate will be acclaimed to the position with full voting privileges.
However, it has come to our attention that the reference to “5.02(c)” was an error. Article 5.02(c) deals with the procedure for nomination forms, it does not deal with qualifications. Qualifications are dealt with in Article 5.02(a). As was explained at the April 3, 2018 meeting, the addition of Article 5.02(e)(ii) was to address a situation where there is no candidate who has the meeting and/or experience requirements set out in Article 5.02(a)(ii). The failure to cite the correct article in 5.02(e) was an oversight. Referencing Article 5.02(c) is nonsensical and does not reflect what was voted on at the April 3, 2018 meeting. We have confirmed this with the Bylaws Committee and the Board of Directors who all agree the amendment to Article 5.02(e) should be as follows:
(ii) Where an acclamation is declared for a position and the candidate does not have the meeting attendance and/or Shop Steward or Committee experience qualifications according to Bylaws Article 5.02(c)(a)(ii), the candidate will be acclaimed to the position with full voting privileges.
Pursuant to Article 2.02(e) of the Bylaws, I have the authority to take action to ensure the necessary and proper functioning of the Union. As such I, with the approval of the Bylaws Committee and Board of Directors, have corrected Article 5.02(e)(ii) as set out above.
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at the Union Office (780-448-8900 or info@csu52.org).
In solidarity,
Lanny Chudyk
President
