CSU 52 has a variety of committees to become involved with, from putting on social events to helping fellow CSU 52 members. Our committees have planning positions that meet formally, or you can sign up to support a committee on a casual basis that does not require a dedicated commitment.

CSU 52 currently has the following committees in place. Nomination for formal committee membership takes place annually at the January General Meeting. Participating on a committee is a great way to become involved with and learn more about the Union, meet new people and network, and support interests and causes that you care about.

Reminders

  • All committees should meet before the end of January to assign roles, review Terms of Reference, create a work plan and coordinate with the Board Liaison Committee.
  • Email [email protected] if we do not have your email address on record as your committee needs to contact you to schedule this meeting.
  • The Board Liaison Committee will meet with committees at least once a year to offer assistance or guidance.
  • Starting 2023, there is a new process for meeting records & attendance keeping. The Board Liaison Committee will explain this process if you missed the presentation.

Members & Community Support Committee

  • The Committee exists and operates as per the Union 52 Benevolent Society Bylaws, Schedule 1.
  • Provide financial assistance to members.
  • Provide educational bursaries to dependents of participating, deceased or retired members.
  • Provide financial support to members for continuing education related to union, labour or career development.
  • Provide financial assistance to non-denominational charitable organizations and/or benevolent outreach programs.

Bylaws

  • Ensure that the CSU 52 Constitution & Bylaws (the “C&B”) and the Union 52 Benevolent Society Bylaws & Objectives are up to date and registered with the appropriate authorities.
  • Research issues of importance and explore CSU 52 bylaws and policies about specific subjects, with the goal of identifying gaps and implications, and draft proposed revisions for consideration at the request of the Policy & Procedures sub-committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Identify any conflict and/or implications to the C&B arising from notices of motions.
  • Identify gaps between the C&B and the Policy & Procedures Manual.
  • Advise the Union Membership at the April General Meeting of any conflicts and/or implications arising from the notice of motions, prior to the motions being voted on.
  • The Committee's role is advisory in nature.

Shop Stewards Assembly

  • To ensure the Collective Agreement, and labour and human rights are adhered to by observing and reporting on matters arising in the workplace.

  • Define the vision and mission for the Committee.
  • Advise the Board of Directors on theories of change, defined objectives, and desired outcomes for CSU 52.
