Request for Expressions of Interest:

Anti-Racism & Discrimination Ad-hoc Steering Committee

Posted on 6/4/2021

At the April 6, 2021 General Membership Meeting, the following motion was passed:

For the CSU 52 Board of Directors to create a standing committee on racism and discrimination as per the Constitution & Bylaws to be brought forward for membership approval at the next General Membership Meeting in June 2021.

CSU 52 is committed to the creation of a standing committee to address the concerns of members of our BIPOC community, and to promote anti-racism in our Union, our workplaces, and our community at large.

CSU 52 is seeking interested members for an ad-hoc steering committee to help in the development of the Terms of Reference for the eventual standing committee. Participants on the ad-hoc steering committee will reflect the diversity of our Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) members, and will articulate the interests, concerns, and aspirations of the BIPOC community. Five to seven members will be selected to the ad-hoc steering committee, which will commence no later than June 30, 2021 and will end no later than December 31, 2021.

Once the ad-hoc steering committee has finalized the Terms of Reference for the standing committee on Anti-Racism & Discrimination, members of CSU 52 will be eligible to put their names forward to be elected to the new standing committee at the January 2022 General Membership meeting. (This is when all committee elections are held.)

Interested members for the ad-hoc steering committee are to submit by email or online form, briefly detailing their interest in being a member of this ad-hoc steering committee and the goals they wish to see for the committee. CSU 52 members Dakat Said and Sheldon Franco have been appointed to the ad-hoc steering committee, by motion at the June 1, 2021 General Membership Meeting, and will be reviewing and selecting the remaining committee members.
